The 4th grade students will be bringing home today (Thursday), tomorrow (Friday) and next Tuesday their finished posters, KWH Chart and information related to their Internet Safety topic they picked and learned a little bit more on.
Make sure you ask them 1 thing they learned and really try to focus on keeping your students comfortable with Internet Safety throughout the summer by talking to them.
It is something that might not happen to you or your student(s), but when it does you should feel comfortable that they know what steps to take to better resolve the issue(s).
Thanks.

3rd Grade Keyboarding-WPM Sheet
The 3rd grade students have finished keyboarding. They have learned all of the keys on the keyboard and have completed all 4 of their Words Per Minute (WPM) typing tests. The students will be bringing home a HomeRow Champ certificate attached to a Handwriting Rate worksheet. On the certificate, in the upper right hand corner, is each students best WPM score from the 4 typing tests they took throughout the school year. The Handwriting Rate worksheet is something the students took at the beginning of the school year, with the goal of being able to type as many WPM as they could write before the end of the school year. Most students equalled or surpassed this goal.
Another goal was for the students to be able to type 3+ WPM by the end of the school year as the 4th grade typing goal is 5 WPM and the 5th grade typing goal is 10 WPM.
If you feel your student(s) needs more practice to help them become better typers before the start of the 2011-2012 school year follow this web site and the online games listed at the bottom for more practice.

5th Grade iMovie-5th Grade Memories
The 5th grade students have started to use iMovie to create and produce a movie related to 5th grade memories. They had 2 topics to pick from. 10 things you liked/will miss about 5th grade or 10 things you want 4th graders to know about 5th grade.
Before they picked their topic they took the opportunity to watch a few iMovie video tutorials related to how to change font, how to add a slide, how to complete transitions, etc. After learning more about how to use iMovie and after picking their topic they have picked their theme for their production to focus around, have been adding in the title slide, their information slides and their transitions. Soon they will finish off their iMovie products by adding pictures that students have taken around the school along with sound effects if they have time.
They will export their iMovie project and Mr. Morton will burn a DVD with each classes finished products for their teachers to show to the students.
It will be interesting to see what they liked/miss about 5th grade or what they think 4th graders should know. Stay tuned

4th Grade CyberSafety Academy
The 4th grade students are finishing the year picking an Internet Safety topic to explore more in depth. They are using a wiki, developed by another WCSD Technology Teacher, titled CyberSafety Academy. The 4 topics the students are allowed to pick from are:
How's Your Cy-Q
Copyright and Plagiarism
Cyberbullies
Viruses, Pop-Ups, and Spam
Once they picked their topic they then used a KWH chart on the computer to type out:
what they already Know
What they want to find out
How are they going to find it
Once they find all of this information, using related web sites on the CyberSafety Academy wiki, they then will use either KidPix3D, KerPoof or MakeBeliefsComix to create a story, poster or card related to the information they learned and they want others to know about.
They will be finishing this up before the end of the school year and will be bringing home their finished KWH chart and finish story, poster or card related to their Internet Safety Topic information.

1st Grade Integration-ABC Book
Mrs. Johnson's 1st Grade class took the opportunity to use KidPix 3D to create an ABC book. Each student was provided a letter from the alphabet and then they had to use typing words, drawing pictures, stamps, stickers or animations in relationship to a word that starts with their letter. So for example if they had the letter B they could stamp an image of a basketball, draw a picture of a boy, and then do more related to the words they know that start with the letter B. Take a look at their finished products below:

4th Grade Microsoft Excel-Finished
The 4th grade students have finished their Microsoft Excel Survey and Pictograph project. They did an awesome job picking a topic, making 5 choices related to their topic, surveying the students on which choice was their favorite, and then taking their information and importing it into their survey and pictograph.
With the information they imported into their Survey document they learned how to type their information into each cell, how to add each cell using formulas, and how to make a Pie, Bar and Line graph with labels and titles.
With the information they imported into their Pictograph document they learned how to type their information into each cell, how to find pictures online and save them to their desktop, how to import their pictures into their pictograph and how resize, copy and paste their pictures.
The awesome part with this project is that the students learned about each part of this project using screenshot videos Mr. Morton created. This allowed the students to view a screen recording of Mr. Morton's laptop along with his voice, which allowed the students to learn and differentiate at their own pace.
This web site will show you their finished documents.
