The 5th graders are starting to finish their Microsoft PowerPoint projects. They have been working on these for quite some time now with the goal of providing a presentation that includes: 2 or more WordArt creations, 5 or more slides, 5 or more clipart pictures/Internet images, transitions, 14 researched country facts, and a resources used slide. So through this process they have learned to complete the above skills as well as: typing in their facts or highlighting, copying and pasting their facts in, adding bullets to their facts, inserting their pictures, rotating, cropping and sizing their pictures, animating their pictures and text, and using their creative mind to make their PowerPoint unique and individualistic.
Be looking for their finished PowerPoint presentations up on the 5th grade Keyboarding web site by the end of the month.

4th Grade Microsoft Excel
4th Grade students are starting the second part of their Microsoft Excel unit, creating a pictograph using clipart pictures from the Internet, provided by a web site that Eason Elementary paid for (not Google Images as they are copyright). The students are learning how to type in the appropriate cells, had to add rows, how to save pictures from the Internet onto their Desktop, how to insert the pictures into their Excel, how to resize/crop the pictures and how to copy and paste the appropriate amount of them for each choice. Below is their beginning template and then a finished product from Mr. Morton.
Parents should be expecting to see their student(s) finished products of both their Microsoft Excel "Survey" and "Pictograph" before the end of April, located at: http://www.waukee.k12.ia.us/easonelementary/computers/fourth_grade_keyboarding.html

Kindergarten Integration-Fiction Stories
Some of the Kindergarten classes took the opportunity to explore writing in a different aspect for their students. The students used KidPix first to print a fiction story setting with characters, then for a week with their teacher took the fiction story printing and wrote out their story based on their setting and characters from the picture, and then came back into the computer lab to use KidPix to type out their finished story. Something different for the Kindergartners as they usually write their stories/journal entries first and then they create/draw a picture from their writing. Below are pictures from Mrs. Rogers class as they did an awesome job with this project.
3rd Grade Internet Safety
The 3rd grade students have finished learning about Internet Safety through a FBI Scavenger Hunt full of web sites to answer questions related to a variety of Internet Safety web sites and information. Internet Safety is something we talk to the students about within 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, not solely for school purposes but more important for the use of the Internet at home. Please talk to your students about what they are learning in relationship to Internet Safety, and you might learn something new. Below, they will be bringing these 2 sheets, filled with answers, home for you and your student(s) to go through and learn more about. They will be bringing these home during the next week.

5th Grade Countries-Poster "VoiceThread"
Click the link above to view and participate in this VoiceThread on the 5th grade students Microsoft Word posters. Making comments is really simple and you can delete and re-record as many times as you like. You and your student(s) may comment on their own poster or others as they appropriately see fit.
A VoiceThread is an online media album that allows a group of people to make school appropriate comments on images, videos, and documents, really simply. You can participate 5 different ways - using your voice (with a microphone or telephone), text, audio file, or video (with a webcam). It's easy to control who can access and comment on a VoiceThread, which makes it a secure place to talk about almost anything: business and academic presentations, travelogues, family history, art critiques, language study, tutorials, book clubs and digital storytelling. A VoiceThread allows an entire group conversation to be collected from anywhere in the world and then shared in one simple place.

K-2 Integration
The Kindergarten, First and Second Grade students have been exploring a web site called KerPoof. KerPoof is a great web site that allows students to Spell a Picture, Make A Picture, or Tell a Story.
The Kindergarten and First Grade students have both explored Spell a Picture and Make a Picture, while the Second Grade students have explored both Make a Picture and Tell a Story.
I have noted to the students that they can play around with this web site at home and can even create their own accounts to be able to Save their work and Unlock different drawing tools. The students have been reminded that they need to ASK for Parent/Guardian PERMISSION to be able to create an account, which is just for at home purposes. If students use KerPoof more at school they will never login to their accounts.
Please play around with the web site and see if it is something you want your student(s) to explore more at home.
